Warning Signs

Is Your Furnace Asking for Help?

Most furnaces give warning signs before they fail. If you notice any of these, book a repair before it becomes an emergency.

No Heat or Low Airflow

Running but not heating, cold air from vents, or some rooms colder than others.

Strange Noises

Banging, rattling or screeching can mean loose parts or a failing blower motor.

Unusual Smells

A burning smell may be dust buildup; musty odours can signal mold.

Short Cycling

Turning on and off too often points to overheating or a thermostat problem.

Yellow Pilot Light

A healthy flame burns blue. A yellow flame may signal a carbon monoxide risk.

Rising Energy Bills

A sudden spike usually means your furnace is working harder than it should.

Know the Difference

Furnace Tune-Up vs. Furnace Repair

They sound similar, but they do different jobs.

Furnace Tune-Up

Preventive service, once a year.

Best time: every fall, before the cold hits

Furnace Repair

Fixes a specific problem.

Best time: as soon as something feels off

Tip: regular tune-ups reduce the chance of unexpected breakdowns and costly emergency repairs.

Before You Call

5 Quick Checks You Can Do Yourself

Some furnace problems have simple fixes. Try these safe steps first. If the heat does not come back, we are one call away.

Make sure it is set to Heat and the temperature is above room level. Replace the batteries if the display is blank.

A clogged filter blocks airflow and can cause shutdowns. If it looks dusty or discoloured, replace it.

Furnaces have a power switch nearby that looks like a light switch. Also check your breaker panel and reset the furnace breaker if it has tripped.

Move furniture or curtains away from vents and make sure supply and return registers are fully open.

If the pilot light is out or the ignitor does not glow, check your furnace manual for reset steps. If it still will not light, call a technician.
